I've always been fascinated by story and family history. When I was young, I remember pouring over the family tree my maternal grandfather created, wondering about the stories that went with each name. I loved spending the night in my grandparents' "antique" room where they kept quilts, photos, and other treasures passed down through the generations, and I spent hours trying to decipher the cramped handwriting in my great-great grandfather's journals.

As an adult, I had the privilege of listening to and writing my own grandparents’ stories not long before both my grandfathers passed. That experience gave me a new appreciation for the beauty and meaning that comes from capturing family stories. Because of their stories, I have a better sense for how my family came to the place they are today, the values that are important to them, and who I am as a result.

 

As the director of biography at a family storytelling company, I interviewed nearly two dozen families about their lives and legacies, and as a freelance writer, I have written more than 140 articles for publication and interviewed dozens of business professionals, entrepreneurs, and non-profit workers. My goal through Rooted Biography is to take some of the stress out of the process and help you tell your story the way you want it to be told.
